Maria Farfan

Maria Farfan B.A, LMT, RYT is a dedicated student of ancestral healing practices. She has been on the path of holistic healing since 2002 when she was first initiated in the art of Reiki I, II and III achieving Master level at age 15. Since then, she has trained in different therapeutic modalities such as plant medicine work, indigenous shamanism, traditional Thai massage, yoga, energy healing and transformational life coaching. She is an avid student of the ancestral cultures that have preserved these practices and follows the traditional principles of natural healing as observed by traditional Ayurvedic medicine and traditional indigenous medicine. Maria seeks to integrate the tools she has learned in offering a sacred and safe space for therapy, and enjoys facilitating learning environments where others can learn these tools and offer their gifts to the world

As an anthropologist she works closely with the traditional indigenous healers and medicines in her home country Colombia and is a researcher of therapeutic uses of plant teachers in ceremonial contexts. She hopes to help bring to light the benefits that can stem from the use of plant teachers and expanded states of consciousness in the awakening of self-awareness and higher wisdom.

She is devoted to the cultivation of traditional healing practices through the use of plant teachers, therapeutic touch and self-awareness. It is this fascination for the intersections of body, mind and spirit that has guided her on the path of self-inquiry and has inspired her to practice with discipline as a vehicle for growing love and compassion for all sentient beings.

Maria holds a B.A. in Anthropology and Philosophy from the University of North Florida and is a Licensed Massage Therapist from the FSM in Gainesville, FL. She currently is pursuing a Master’s degree in Consciousness Studies, Transpersonal Psychology and Transformative Life Coaching at The Graduate Institute in Bethany, CT. Maria is also an independent massage educator and is an NCBTMB CEU approved provider for other licensed massage therapists. Her yoga training has taken place in the United States in the lineage of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan as well as Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga in Colombia and Peru through the Inbound School of Yoga. She has spent time in Costa Rica, the United States and Colombia as a massage instructor and yoga teacher trainer where she has led several massage certification workshops and yoga teacher trainings through Inbound Yoga. Her Thai massage training has been largely in Gainesville, FL under the tutelage of her long-time mentor and friend, Ariela Grodner director of the Bodhi Sangha School of Thai Massage. Additionally, she has traveled to Thailand to further her studies in Thai massage at the Sunshine Network School and TMC, and has spent time with recognized massage masters like Kam Thye Chow and Pichest. She thoroughly enjoys studying Hinduism, Buddhism, and indigenous wisdom from different cultures.

Besides all the studying she whole-heartedly enjoys singing, laughing, acrobatic yoga, martial arts, warrior yoga, traveling and sharing love with those around her.

My heart goes out in gratitude to all the medicine men and women, altar carriers, healers, shamans, yogis, meditators, philosophers, professors, and teachers I have had over the years in informal settings, I cannot detail particular institutions where I have received some of the most profound teachings, because some of these have simply occurred in the context of life. I am happy to share stories and particular details in conversation if you have interest in any one particular direction. My path is your path, and the true compass lies in your heart.
